A 2-minute walk brings you to the Glebe, a beautiful, community owned, riverside meadow and orchard. It is enclosed so is suitable for letting dogs off the lead but the riverside is not fenced.

There is an extensive range of footpaths in the parish, with many circular walks starting from the adjacent church.

The traditional market town of Harleston is just over a mile away, taking around 25 minutes to walk along field edge public rights of way.

Harleston has a wealth of independent shops and quaint places for lunch and afternoon tea (try out the Yakety Yak Tea Room or Cornucopia), in addition to Momiji, the Japanese restaurant and a Co-Op supermarket. There is an outdoor activity gym in the Harleston recreation park which is free for anyone to use.

There are many friendly country pubs with excellent food within easy driving distance or on a circular walk or cycle ride from Starston, as well as local well-respected micro-breweries, an English whiskey distillery and Flint Vineyard.

Starston is on the scenic Norfolk/Suffolk border, some 20 miles south of the beautiful, historic city of Norwich, which lies a 40 minute drive away along lovely country roads.

Aldeburgh, Dunwich, Minismere, RSPB bird reserve, the Suffolk Coast AONB, Southwold, Walberswick, Woodbridge, Wymondham are all only a 45-50 minute drive away. Oulton Broad is 45 minutes and Snetterton Circuit 35 minutes away by car. The North Norfolk Coast is 1 1/4 hours drive and depending on which part of the Norfolk Broads you choose to visit, these are all 40-60 minutes away.

Other nearby market towns include Diss (10 miles), Bungay (9 miles) and Beccles (15 miles), the latter two being in Suffolk.

There is a reliable, infrequent, bus service to Norwich and Harleston, the bus stop being a minutes walk from Hillside.
